French Leads Beavers On Day One At Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz.. - Senior Whitney French shot a 2-over 74 at the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday to lead the Oregon State women's golf team to eighth place after the opening round of the Beavers' first tournament of the spring season.
"We definitely didn't play our best today but we didn't take ourselves out of contention," French said. "We have been working hard during the winter break and it's bound to pay off. Tomorrow's round will be a good mental test for us to prove to ourselves how strong we really are."
Oregon State shot a 19-over 307 at the par-72, 6,520-yard Golf Club at Vistoso in the opening round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament and trail five fellow Pac-12 members - Arizona, UCLA, Arizona State, Colorado and Stanford - heading into Monday's second round.

"We had a great first day into our spring season and I saw some very positive signs of improvement," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "I also saw some mental mistakes that affected our score. Most of those were in our adjustments to dry conditions, wind and fast greens. Making those adjustments quickly is imperative."
Sophomore Seshia Telles is tied for 32nd place with a 4-over 76, while junior Rachael Fischer shot a 5-over 77, freshman Anica Yoo finished with an 8-over 80 and Lauren Sewell shot a 13-over 85.
"Their experience today was valuable and should show up in better scoring tomorrow," Alexander added. "No one was exempt from this. They can all make significant improvements over the next two days. Physically, this is the best ball striking team I have ever coached. We have a lot to look forward to this spring."
The second round shotgun start begins at 7:45 a.m. PT (8:45 a.m. Arizona time) on Monday and live scoring is available throughout the tournament at golfstat.com.
