Women's Golf Chalks Up Another Top-Five Finish

STANFORD, Calif. - Another tournament, another top-five finish for the Oregon State women's golf team as the Beavers fired the second-best round among the 12-team final on Sunday to finish in a tie for fourth at the Peg Barnard Invitational.
The Beavers posted a 16-over 300 on Sunday at the par-71, 6,092-yard Stanford Golf Course to knock eight strokes off their opening round 308 and move up from sixth place to a tie for fourth with Fresno State and make it four top-five finishes in their six tournaments this season.
"We got off to a rocky start today but really fought back and moved up the leader board," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "I am seeing some great improvements on our team. We are excited to come back and do quality work on our golf game. I am definitely seeing a team culture develop that holds success as an expectation. They are are demanding more from their commitment to performing at a high level."

Individually, all five Oregon State players shot better rounds on Sunday from their opening 18 holes on Saturday, led by sophomore Lauren Sewell who recorded her second career top-10 finish, and first in a tournament with more than two teams, to finish in a tie for seventh with a 7-over 75-74--149.
Freshman Anica Yoo continued her steady play with a 9-over 76-75--151 to finish in a tie for 13th, while senior Whitney French and sophomore Seshia Telles each tied for 24th with a 12-over 154. Junior Rachael Fischer finished tied for 47th with a 21-over 163 and senior Elyse Okada competed as an individual and placed 59th with a 28-over 170.
Only California, which won the team title with a 19-over 587, shot a better round than the Beavers on Sunday as the Golden Bears carded an 8-over 292 after opening with an 11-over 295. Host Stanford finished second with a 38-over 303-303--606 and Washington placed third with a 39-over 304-303--607. The Beavers and Bulldogs finished only a stroke back of the Huskies with a 40-over 608.
The tie for fourth is the Beavers' best finish this season after they had finished fifth in three previous tournaments - WSU Cougar Cup in Pullman, Wash., Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., and Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
Oregon State returns to action March 5-6 at the Bruin Wave Invitational at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif., in a tournament hosted by UCLA.
