Oregon State Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mile Riley
On improving to 7-1...
"When you win they are all good wins but that was a really good win. We have a lot of respect for that football team (ASU) and the way that they have been playing."
On falling behind 14-3 in the first quarter...
"The kids kept their composure and no one really panicked or blinked. We made some major mistakes that were our doing but they (ASU) also made some sacks. We made enough plays defensively and the kids played like crazy. Their (ASU's) first drive was impressive and it takes time to get a feel for the speed and pace. Our guys got stronger as the game went on and played smart. We got some pretty decent runs going and we improved our kick-off returns."
On Cody Vaz's performance...
"The quarterback is going to get hit and the pressure is always coming. They (ASU) have a lot of talent that put the heat on us but I am really proud of how Cody hung in there and made the plays to win the game."
On Terron Ward stepping in after Storm Woods' injury...
"We are proud of all of our guys and we have good depth at running back. That is what this team has done so far. If someone is hurt, then somebody steps in and makes the big plays like Terron did today. I am not really surprised because they have all done good stuff and when they get their opportunity, they take advantage of it."
Sophomore running back Terron Ward
On taking the bulk of the carries after Storm Woods injury...
"I wasn't even thinking about how many carries I would get tonight. I just wanted to come in and help the team when Storm went down. They put me in and I made the best of my opportunity."
On the team rallying after Woods' injury...
"That's the definition of our team right there. When one guy goes down you have to pick up the pieces and keep going."
On a possible running back controversy...
"No, there is no controversy. We have a deep team and whoever goes in is going to do their thing."
Senior wide receiver Markus Wheaton
On coming back from injury...
"I was excited to get back because it stunk missing the last game. Playing football is what I do so it didn't take too much at all."
On being from Arizona and playing the Sun Devils...
"Those are my boys. I have to give them a little extra credit every time I play them."
On being down 14-3 in the first quarter...
"We were not concerned at all, we just had to get rolling."
Sophomore defensive end Scott Crichton
On the adjustments OSU made at half time...
"We didn't play well at all during the first half. Not much was said, it was just a group effort to be better and pick it up in the second half."
On handling the ASU running attack during the second half...
"We just had to adjust our plays. We changed them up a little bit in the second half and those started working, so we stuck with them."
On the matching up with Stanford next week...
"I like where our defense is right now and we'll definitely be ready for the game, no question."
Junior linebacker Michael Doctor
On OSU's play...
"I thought it was pretty good. Everyone came out and responded well after last week's loss. We played hard even though we started off a little slow."
On the difference between his team's performance in the first and second halves...
"We had some good stops which let us put points on the board. We knew that if we continued to stop them (ASU) the game would be over."
On next week's game at Stanford...
"They are a great team. We need to watch the film and see them, then just come out and play football the way we know how to."
Arizona State Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Todd Graham
Opening Statement...
"First of all, I want to congratulate Coach Riley. He's one of the first class guys in this business. They (OSU) are obviously a very well coached football team. There's not much that you can say other than we got our butts whooped. Their defense is the real deal. They beat us in the kicking game, too. I thought the key in the game was the second half when we got the kickoff return and the ball at the 15-yard line. We got pinned down on our own end. We punted the ball and they got it at the 50."
On his team's effort...
"Our guys played hard. We did some great things. We scored a touchdown early and we had a lot of momentum in the first quarter. But you have to give them (OSU) credit. They came back and captured the momentum in the second quarter."
On Oregon State's effort...
"We just played one of the top teams in the country. They were better than us tonight. Their defense dominated our offense. We gave up big plays on our defense. Those are things you can't do.
On what the difference was in the game...
"We basically gave up two big plays in the first half, that was it. Then we had two busted alignments in the second half. We just gave up the big play. That was the story there. Obviously, we win together and lose together. I'm proud of those guys in that room.
On the play of OSU quarterback Cody Vaz...
"You have to give their (OSU's) quarterback a lot of credit. I'm telling you we hit him a lot tonight. We hit him and he executed some plays."
Quarterback Taylor Kelly
On Arizona State's offensive struggles...
"Their (OSU's) interior D-Line and front seven were doing a great job of making stunts and twists. They did a great job scheming us."
Running back Cameron Marshall
On the Oregon State defense...
"They were just sound. They were all over the ball and they were all in the right spots. They have a good defense and that's one of the reasons why they're 8-1 right now."
On the OSU defense versus the run...
"We knew they (OSU) were going to be a challenge going into this week. We knew they had stopped the run pretty well."
