Oregon State Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mike Riley
On his team's 4-0 start…
“I am really proud of the players. Today it was relatively low scoring with both defenses playing well. I really couldn't be prouder of our defense. That is going to be really important moving forward, that everybody picks each other up and that we find that way to win. Defensively, we made a lot of plays.”
On the defense's performance…
“I thought the defense in general was very disruptive. When Washington State thought they had something, they really didn't. Guys made plays and (Jordan) Poyer's interceptions were big time. It really helps to get a sack because the quarterback always has that in the back of his head. The guys played hard and made a lot of plays.”
On Washington State's special teams performance…
“We have a lot of respect for Washington State. We thought it was the best special teams group that we had seen (all season). They are well coached, tough, scrappy and productive. I thought our guys did a real nice job not giving them anything in that area.”
Soph. Quarterback Sean Mannion
On the offense's performance…
“There are some easy things that we need to fix. Obviously we are happy with the win but we also know there is a lot that we can do better, there is no doubt in my mind. I know that personally, there are some things that I can do to improve as well.”
On the offensive production during the first half…
“Washington State's defense caught us off guard at first, myself included. As the game went on we really settled down and I'm very proud of the way our team came out in the second half. It would have been easy to fold and to feel sorry for ourselves, but we didn't. The way we responded in the second half says a lot about us.”
Senior Cornerback Jordan Poyer
On his three interceptions…
“I was just seeing the field really well. There were plays to be made and I made them. It was nothing out of the ordinary; I was just making plays.”
On if he thought he was going to have a big game…
“To be honest with you, I wouldn't lie, I did. It's something you feel. I had my high school team and my parents come to the game today and Reser Stadium was sold out. You just want to go out there and make plays.”
On feeding off of playing in front of a sold out Reser with his high school team in the stands…
“Every game is really like that for me. There is no other moment quite like playing at Reser Stadium in front of a sold out crowd. My whole high school team was here to watch me play and that's something I really thought of when I went to bed last night. These guys came out here and supported me. Everyone in my town really supports me and I really wanted to do it for them. I came from a small high school and not many people get to play college sports from there.”
Redshirt Freshman Running Back Storm Woods
On the offense's performance…
“Washington State threw a lot of blitzes at us today. At times we couldn't handle it and at other times we picked them up. They mixed up their 3-4 and 4-3 (defensive schemes) and a couple times I got mixed up which cost us two sacks.”
On the defense's performance…
“Against Arizona it was more of an offensive game and today it was more of a defensive game. I can't wait until we put a whole game together and we can see how good we really are. It was frustrating today not getting my yards, but it's not about me. It's about the team and we won, so it's okay.”
Senior Wide Receiver Markus Wheaton
On the importance of the team's touchdown in the third quarter…
“It was a huge drive for us. Our defense had been playing great all game and we struggled a bit on offense. Our missed assignments killed us so that third quarter drive was huge for us.”
On the team's potential moving forward…
“Our record says we are perfect right now so I can't argue with that, but we do have a lot to work on. As you could see we had a lot of penalties and just have a lot of stuff to work on offensively as well as defensively.”
Soph. Defensive End Scott Crichton
On cornerback Jordan Poyer's performance…
“Just a beast performance. That's a superstar right there. He carried us as a defense and it was really amazing.”
On putting together a complete team performance…
“We have so much potential to win every game on our schedule. We haven't played as a whole team yet because either the offense or defense carries us in each game. Once we finally play as a team, you guys (the fans) are in for something great!”
Washington State Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mike Leach
On the both team's defensive efforts…
“Defenses for both teams played better than the offenses. Oregon state's defense was more physical than our offense. Their defense got our offense out of timing on a lot of plays.”
On Oregon State defensive line…
“The Oregon State front was beating us because they were more physical. After the quarterback's first read they had people in his (Jeff Tuel's) lap the last four or five plays”
Wide Receiver Gino Simone
On OSU's performance…
“Oregon State did some really good things during the game and its defense did a great job all night.”
Quarterback Jeff Tuel
On the OSU pass defense…
“They were jumping a lot of routes because they were playing a lot of man coverage. They were playing very tight and left only small spaces to throw the football.”
