STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Lauren Sewell shot a 1-under 70 in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday and the Oregon State women's golf team is tied for third place, and only six strokes out of first place, with the final round slated for Sunday.
The Beavers shot a 6-over 290 at the par-71, 6,130-yard Stanford Golf Course after opening with a 3-over 287 on Friday and trail only No. 3 USC (3-over 571) and No. 2 Washington (7-over 575), and are tied with Oklahoma State (9-over 577).
The Beavers will tee off beginning at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday and be paired with Stanford and Vanderbilt. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"It was another solid performance on back-to-back days," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "That is significant improvement and what we have been working toward; solid course management and execution for the most part. I'm really proud of our team and looking forward to playing tomorrow."

Sewell had a near flawless round on Saturday with 15 pars, two birdies and only one bogey, and is tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under 71-70--141. It's her fourth career sub-par round, and first this season, and puts herself in position to post a career-best finish, bettering the tie for sixth she had at the Rose City Collegiate last month.
Freshman Chelsea Saelee is having her best tournament as a collegian with a 1-over 71-72--143 and is tied for 11th after carding four more birdies on Saturday. Her best 54-hole score coming in to the Stanford Intercollegiate is a 17-over 233 and her best finish is a tie for 22nd with both coming at the Rose City Collegiate.
Junior Seshia Telles is tied for 20th with a 3-over 72-73--145 and sophomore Anica Yoo is tied for 36th with a 6-over 73-75--148.
The 17-team field includes six top-10 teams and all but two of them ranked in the top 50 in the nation. One of those unranked teams is Oregon State, but the number next to the team name hasn't mattered as the Beavers are ahead of 12 of them on the leaderboard with 18 important holes remaining on Sunday.
