MOSCOW, Idaho – The Oregon State swim team tied the University of Idaho Vandals 147-147 today in their second dual meet of the weekend. This weekend marks the first double-dual meet weekend for the Beavers since their opening weekend against the University of California.
“We were able to overcome all of the diving points, but we couldn't find one more point to win the meet,” head coach Larry Liebowitz said.
Crystal Kibby led the way for the Beavers for the fourth meet in a row. She has now taken home three first place finishes for the fourth straight meet. Against Idaho, she finished first in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and finished first in the 200-yard individual medley.
Kibby notched a time of 2:07.10 in the 200-yard individual medley, which was her fastest time of the season thus far. Along with Kibby, three other Beavers took home first place in their respective events.
Jenni Dole won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke for the third week in a row. She finished the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.17 and then completed the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.22. Rachel O'Brien won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.78 and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.50.
Dakota Bloch took home the titles for the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle for the second time this weekend. She finished the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.81 and then won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.68.
Other notable performances for the Beavers include a second place finish for Aya Fujimura in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:06.08 is her second fastest time of the season. Shelby Webber finished in second place to Dole in the 100-yard backstroke and also finished in second place in the 100-yard freestyle.
“We had such an emotional meet at Washington State and we started a little flat, but we came back real strong in the second half of the meet,” Liebowitz said. “Overall though, it was a really solid weekend for Beaver swimming.”
The Beavers also had a successful relay day in the pool. They won the 400-yard freestyle relay and placed second in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Dole, Kibby, Webber and O'Brien finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.75. The team of Webber, Dole, O'Brien and Allison Gillespie won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.81.
The Oregon State swim team will return to action on February 22 when they travel to Federal Way, Wash. for the Pac-12 Championships.
