FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Oregon State swim team finished up the first day of competition of the Pac-12 Championships tonight with only two races being swam. The Beavers competed in the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The team of Jenni Dole, Rachel O'Brien, Crystal Kibby and Shelby Webber competed in the 200-yard medley relay finishing eighth overall with a time of 1:41.07. Not only did they set a new season best time in the event, but the group also broke the school record for this even.
Webber, Ocean Trail, Allison Gillespie and Dakota Bloch finished the 800-yard freestyle relay in seventh place overall notching a time of 7:21.29. The Beavers had set a season best time in this event of 7:29.35 at the Arena Invite, but beat that time tonight by almost eight seconds.
With the times that were achieved tonight, the Beavers were able to walk away from the pool with two NCAA B cut times in the events. Having NCAA consideration times in relay events is important because the members of that relay team are also able to compete in other events at the NCAA Championships if the relay team is invited to the event.
Tomorrow the Beavers will compete in the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley and the 50-yard freestyle. The preliminaries will start at 11:00 a.m. and the finals will take place at 6:00 p.m.
