CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team bounced back from after its first loss of the season last Friday night after defeating the Purdue Boilermakers 1-0 today, out shooting their opponent 13-7.
Jenna Richardson found the back of the net in the final seconds of the first half to give the Beavers the lead into halftime. She finished the half with three shots.
"The goal was a nice little combination play with Haley Shaw to Melinda Ingalls, who found Jenna Richardson that set up Jenna for a one-on-one to goal," Head Coach Linus Rhode said. "It was a nice time to get a goal right before the end of the first half."
Oregon State out-shot Purdue 10-1 and led in corner kicks 3-1 in the first half. In the second half, the game was a hard fought battle by both teams. Junior Chelsea Buckland had an opportunity to make it a 2-0 game in the 80th minute, but the post denied her.
"The second half was a physical battle," Rhode said. "Purdue came out and put a lot of pressure on us, so we had to soak up a lot of pressure. I think overall they did a good job of absorbing the pressure and trying to play out of it."
The Beavers improve their record to 1-1-0 and the Boilermakers drop to 1-2-0 during the regular season. The Beavers will return to action Sunday against the Butler Bulldogs. They are set to kickoff at 9:00 a.m. PT.
