Chesimet Wins 1,500 Meter Heat at Oregon Twilight

EUGENE, Ore. - Abby Chesimet won the women's 1,500 meter B section run, football student-athlete Obum Gwacham won the men's high jump and teammate Markus Wheaton finished second in the 100 at the Oregon Twilight meet Friday night at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"The meet went really well for us," Oregon State track coach Kelly Sullivan. "We got exactly what we were hoping to get out of it one week before the Pac-10 Championships. We're very pleased."
Chesimet ran a career-best time of 4:32.97 in the 1,500 Friday night which is the second best time of any Oregon State runner this season. It also puts her 10th all-time at Oregon State for the event.
Krista Stangel finished third in the event with a career-best time of 4:33.80. Audrey Botti, Jennifer Macias Olivia Poblacion all set career-bests in the race.
Taylor Hunt finished eighth in her section of the women's 800 Friday with a time of 2:18.31 just missing her career best time of 2:18.15 which she set at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on April 16.
Wheaton ran a career-best time of 10.75 in the men's 100-meter dash to finish second. Fellow football teammate Keynan Parker finished fourth in his heat and fifth overall in the event with a time of 10.89.
In his third meet of the outdoor track season, Gwacham won the men's high jump with a season-high height of 6-10.25. It is his second win of the season after winning at the Oregon Preview in mid-March.
"Markus (Wheaton) and Keynan (Parker) ran really well for only haveing one day of practice leading up to the meet," Sullivan said. "Everyone walked out feeling very good."
Another group of the Oregon State track team will be competing tomorrow at the Mt. Hood Track & Field Festival in Gresham, Ore.
