TEMPE, Ariz. - The Oregon State women's golf team finished in 13th place at the three-day, 54-hole PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday.
The Beavers shot a 47-over 307-292-312--911 at the par-72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course to finish 13th in the 17-team tournament that featured nine teams ranked in the Top 25 according to Golfstat.
"Today was a tough day for the team," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "Overall, we gave some shots away we shouldn't have. However, they can take a lot of positive learning experiences away from this. We can use this experience to perform better at the Pac-10 Championship held on the same course in two weeks.
Freshman Lauren Sewell paced the Beavers throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 30th with an 8-over 79-69-76--224. Freshman Seshia Telles had an 11-over 75-73-79--227 to tie for 40th, while junior Whitney French finished tied for 49th with a 13-over 77-74-78--229.
"I thought Lauren and Seshia played very well this week," Alexander said. "Today was the first day they played in wind on this course and that also will be a factor at Pac-10's."
UCLA won the team title with a 1-under 276-289-298--863 and Sophia Popov of USC won medalist honors with a 5-under 69-71-71--211.
The Beavers return to action April 17-19 at the Pac-10 Championships at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
