CLEVELAND, Ohio -
Senior Jen Kesler capped her Oregon State gymnastics career at the NCAA Championships Individual Event Finals with a second place finish on the uneven bars Sunday afternoon. Kesler led the day for the other three Beavers, who each earned first team All-America honors and earned spots on the podium during the weekend.
The Oregon State uneven bars lineup was ranked No. 1 in the nation for several weeks this season. Sunday half of that lineup participated in the NCAA Championships Individual Event Finals and all three gymnasts finished on the podium receiving trophies.
Kesler, a two-time second team All-American entering the weekend, earned a spot in the event finals for the first time in her career after tying with teammates Vivian and Stambaugh for first in their semifinal session Friday with identical scores of 9.90. On Sunday, Kesler hit her handstands and nailed her dismount to end her gymnastics career on a high note finishing second overall with a score of 9.875.
"This is my first event finals so I was a little nervous but I'm so happy," Kesler said. "This is such a great way to go out!"
Stambaugh, who also performed on the floor exercise, executed an outstanding routine and had a small hop on the landing to score 9.8625 to tie for sixth. Vivian, who earned the first All-America award of her career, hit a great routine and stuck her dismount to score 9.850.
"Today is a day to enjoy," Vivian said. "It's a culmination of all the great gymnastics we've done this year. I'm just grateful I earned a spot in today's competition. I set the goal to be an All-American this year and that's another goal accomplished."
In the final flight of the day, Stambaugh took to the floor exercise where she finished 12th as a freshman in 2010 and performed a nearly flawless routine. She finished eighth with a score of 9.8625 to snag a second trophy.
Shortly after Stambaugh's routine, Mak struggled a bit through her beam routine with a couple wobbles and finished 10th overall. On Saturday night following Super Six finals, Mak collected her all-around trophy on the podium after finishing tied for seventh overall with a score of 39.350 in the Beavers' semifinal Friday.
For the first time in Oregon State history three gymnasts earned first team All-America honors on the uneven bars.
In all the Beavers totaled six All-America accolades in 2011 -Mak (all-around & balance beam), Stambaugh (uneven bars & floor exercise), Kesler (uneven bars) and Vivian (uneven bars).
