The Oregon State women's golf team finished 12th with a final round 312 at the second annual Bruin Wave Invitational Wednesday at the par-72, 6,282-yard Valley Course at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club.
"We had an up-and-down day but I felt that we definitely made some positive strides in the last two rounds," Oregon State head coach Ris¸ Alexander said. "I see this as a turning point for this team. It seems to me that they are beginning to embrace some excellent course management techniques that the coaches have been emphasizing for a while."
The Beavers posted rounds of 321, 304 and a final round score of 312 for a tournament total of 73-over 937. UCLA won the tournament with a (281-294-285) 860 in the three-day event.
Freshman Seshia Telles continued her strong play with firing a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 33rd overall. Sophomore Rachael Fischer finished (77-74-80) 231 and tied for 39th.
"Since the team is fairly young, this is exciting for the program," Alexander said. "I felt that Seshia and Rachael both had a positive experience this week and can build on that for next week at UNLV."
"We improved throughout the tournament," Telles said. "We started off a bit rocky as the week progressed, I felt that we picked up our performance which also helped the team to stay positive."
Lauren Sewell shot a 77 for the second consecutive to finish (86-77-77) 240. Junior Whitney French finished the tournament with a three-day score of (80-77-79) 236 to tie for 53rd and Elyse Okada finished at (90-87-87) 264.
The Beavers are back in action next week at the UNLV Lady Rebel Invitational at the Boulder Creek Golf Course, Mar. 7-9.
