PERSONAL—Born 12/29/79 in Houston, Texas...son of Ray and Janet Kintner...his father is a salesman and his mother is a computer programmer...has one older brother, Wayne, 28...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a liberal studies major...his top athletic thrill as a prep athlete was winning the state high school football championship as a senior...Michael Jordan is his favorite athlete...selected OSU because, “it is close to home and because of the coaching staff.”
OSU—(2002—Senior)—Shawn enters his senior year having played in 34 games with two starts...he started against New Mexico as a sophomore in 2000 and he started against Washington State as a junior last season...he has 30 career receptions for 369 yards (12.3 average) and two touchdowns...he has soft hands and has always been a gifted receiver…he had to adjust to the speed of the game at the collegiate level and learn how to get himself open when he first arrived out of high school…Oregon State coaches have been expecting Shawn to have a breakout season for the past two years...hopefully, this will be Shawn's year to post big numbers...he opened spring drills as the No. 1 split end and he had a very productive spring...he worked extremely hard and made several big catches...he caught one pass for 7 yards in the first scrimmage and two for 21 in the second scrimmage...in the Spring Game, Shawn caught two passes for 22 yards for the White squad...during winter conditioning, Shawn posted weightlifting bests of 255 in the bench press, 335 in the back squat, 242 in the power clean and 220 in the push press...his top vertical jump mark was 30.5 inches.
(2001—Junior)—Shawn entered his junior season having played in 23 games...he played in all 11 games in 2001 and started one game, at Washington State on October 6...he was OSU's fourth-leading receiver in 2001 with 17 receptions for 221 yards (13.0 average) and one touchdown...he had a long catch of 37 yards vs. Fresno State...he caught two passes at Fresno State for 44 yards...he caught one pass at New Mexico State for 3 yards...he failed to make a catch vs. UCLA...in his lone season start, he had his most productive game at WSU, catching four passes for 62 yards with a long of 24...caught one pass for 6 yards vs. Arizona...failed to make a catch at Arizona State...caught two passes at home vs. California for 17 yards...caught one pass for 4 yards at USC...caught two passes for 37 yards, including a 16-yard TD pass, against Washington...added two receptions for 27 yards vs. Northern Arizona...caught two passes for 20 yards at Oregon…he was the No. 1 split end at the start of spring practice and at the conclusion…he was bothered in the spring with a hip pointer which slowed his progress…in three spring scrimmages, Shawn caught two passes for 19 yards in the second scrimmage and one pass for 10 yard for the winning Black squad in the spring game…Shawn worked very hard in the winter conditioning program…he posted lifting bests of 255 in the bench press, 237 in the power clean and 335 in the squat.
(2000—Sophomore)—Shawn played in 11 games with one start during the season…he started against New Mexico and missed the Washington game…he played as a backup split end in the other 10 games…Shawn caught two passes during the season…he caught a pass for 4 yards at New Mexico and another for 9 yards against San Diego State…Shawn entered his sophomore season having played in 12 games with 11 receptions for 135 yards and one touchdown...Shawn entered spring drills listed No. 1 at split end...he was in a hard-fought battle with Monjero Jones during the spring and when spring drills concluded, Jones had a slight edge over Kintner...however, Jones left school following spring quarter and Shawn reported to fall camp as the No. 1 split end...in the four spring scrimmages, Shawn did not catch a pass in the first scrimmage and caught 2 for 11 yards in the second scrimmage...in scrimmage No. 3, he caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Shayne House...in the Spring Game, he caught two passes for 33 yards for the winning White squad...in winter conditioning, Shawn posted weightlifting bests of 305 in the back squat, 230 in the bench press and 214 in the power clean.
(1999-Redshirt Freshman)—Shawn got off to a slow start in his freshman season, but his play and confidence continued to improve as the season progressed...he caught 11 passes for 135 yards, 12.3 average...he caught his first collegiate pass against Georgia Southern for 10 yards...he caught his second pass against Washington...his third reception was a 38-yarder from Terrance Bryant for a touchdown against UCLA...he completed the season with two receptions against Arizona, four in the Oregon game for 38 yards and two vs. Hawaii in the Oahu Bowl...he caught eight passes in his final three games as he began to show the promise everyone thought he would show in 1999...Shawn entered spring drills as the No. 2 split end and with high expectations after an impressive redshirt season...in OSU's three major spring scrimmages, Shawn caught three passes for 23 yards at Roseburg on April 17 and was blanked at Prothro Field on April 24...in the final Spring Game, Shawn showed the promise everyone was looking for by catching six passes for 80 yards, including a sensational 27-yard TD reception from Jonathan Smith for the Black squad...based on his play in the spring, Shawn reported to fall camp as the No. 3 split end...in the weight room, Shawn posted personal bests of 200 pounds in the hang clean, 235 in the bench press, 325 in the back squat and 220 in the incline...has a vertical jump of 29.00 inches.
(1998-Freshman)—Shawn redshirted during the 1998 season as a wide receiver...Shawn had a very impressive fall camp and it was a difficult decision for Coach Mike Riley to redshirt Shawn instead of playing him as he was definitely one of the Beavers' top six receivers.
McNARY HIGH SCHOOL, Keizer, OR (1995-97)—Shawn was named prep All-American by PrepStar Magazine...he was named the fourth best athlete in the Western region by SuperPrep...he was rated as the 25th best player in the Far West by SuperPrep Magazine...he was a preseason first-team All-Western Region pick by PrepStar Magazine...Shawn was a first-team all-state pick in Oregon (by Oregonian) as a wide receiver and safety on defense...he was a first-team all-state selection (Oregonian) as a junior at wide receiver...he was named a Northwest Nugget by the Tacoma News Tribune and rated the 13th best player in the Northwest (Oregon, Washington and Alaska) by the News Tribune...he was a three-year basketball starter and a first-team all-state pick (Oregonian) as a senior, while playing for coach Larry Gahr...averaged 25 points a game at McNary in basketball as a junior and 26.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a game as a senior with a high game of 40 points...was named the Valley League Player of the Year and a first-team All-Valley League selection as a junior and senior in basketball and as a senior in football...following his senior year, Shawn was presented with the Oliver Houston Prep Male Athlete of the Year Award for the city of Salem...in football, Shawn virtually played every minute of every game for McNary until the issue was settled...he also played on special teams...played for coach Tom Smythe at McNary...Shawn ran the 40 in 4.6 in high school...also recruited by Oregon, Washington, ASU, WSU and UCLA...McNary won the 1997 Oregon 4A state football championship with a 14-0 record...in the state championship, he caught nine passes for 172 yards and one TD, plus playing defense and returning and covering kicks...had 77 receptions for 1,538 yards (20.0 average) and 15 touchdowns as a senior...Shawn felt his best game as a senior was against Crescent Valley when he caught six passes for 249 yards, plus he intercepted two passes on defense...as a junior, he caught 68 passes for 1,275 yards (18.8 average) and 28 touchdowns to earn first team all-state (Oregonian) honors....as a sophomore, Shawn played quarterback and wide receiver...caught 15 passes for 124 yards and seven touchdowns...rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns...completed 60 of 146 passes (.411 percentage) for 952 yards and eight touchdowns, and was named third-team all-league at quarterback and second-team all-league at free safety...McNary was 6-3 his sophomore year and 11-2 his junior year...had 37 catches for 708 yards and six TDs in five-game state 4A playoffs, which McNary won by defeating Beaverton 51-48 in the title game....he was named Player of the Year by the Oregon Statesman in its circulation area...was selected to play in the North-South All-Star game in the summer of 1998 in Portland...Coach Tom Smythe said, “he's better than some of the NFL players such as Erik Wilhelm, J.J. Birden, Doug Nussmeier that I have coached. He is a big time, big game player. He makes the best plays in clutch situations. He is very consistent and is always there during crunch time.”...in his three-year McNary career, caught 160 passes for 2,937 yards (18.4 average) and 50 touchdowns...also intercepted eight passes as a senior...he was a two-time Valley League all-star and league MVP.
