AURORA, Ore. - The Oregon State women's golf team is tied for first place with the University of North Texas after two rounds of play Monday at the Rose City Collegiate Golf Tournament at Langdon Farms Golf Club.
"We played very well today," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "We had a couple of big numbers in the beginning, but the golf course is in great shape and with the weather, everything just came together nicely."
Junior Whitney French fired a 1-under-par 71 in the first round and an even par 72 in the second round to lead the tournament by a stroke over Kaili Britos of Hawai'i. Junior Elyse Okada shot a 5-over-par (75-74) 149 and freshman Seshia Telles is at 6-over-par (76-74) 150 to put three Oregon State golfers in the top 12.
"Whitney birdied three of her last four holes in the second round, which was just amazing," Alexander said. "It definitely says something about her focus and determination of hanging in there and sticking with her game plan."
Senior Kristina Gargaro finished the day at 13-over-par (80-77) 157 and freshman Lauren Sewell is at 14-over-par (82-76) 158.
The final round will be played tomorrow at Langdon Farms Golf Club, a 6,080-yard, par 72 course, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. off holes 1 and 10. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
