Head Coach Craig Robinson
On the game ...
"The reason why we schedule a game like this is so that we can have a feel for how to play on the road and we just came out so lifeless at the beginning of the game. I was a little bit surprised because I thought we had a good week of practice. We were coming off a good win, but the first six or seven minutes we looked kind of lifeless. Once we got our heads right, I think we played the way that we normally play. But you can't give a team like this, who is an NCAA Tournament team, an 11 point head start and expect to beat them in their own gym."
On the discrepancy of foul calls in the first half ...
"I'm never going to blame the refs for our games, win or lose, but what we have to do is be able to make plays in spite of calls. If calls aren't going your way, you have to find some way to get to the foul line yourself. There were a couple of plays that we had opportunities, but instead of trying to take it up there strong, we let the defense and the refs off the hook. You can't do that."
On the positives from the game ...
"I was very pleased with the way Angus (Brandt) played. I think you got a taste for what Roberto (Nelson) can bring to you. I thought Calvin Haynes played a great all-around game. He provided a spark for us. There are some positive things."
On making adjustments at halftime ...
"In the second half, we executed what we were supposed to do in the first half. You're going to see that with a young team. I think we are still affected by the fact that we are on the road. When you have nine freshmen and sophomores, and have that many of those guys who are getting into the game that will have that kind of effect. That is why our veterans got a little bit more playing time this around. They've been here and done that before."
On the play of Roberto Nelson in his second game ...
"It's a shame that we couldn't come out with a positive result today, because it was fun to see a little bit of a glimpse of what he can do. But I think I may have played him a little too long. He looked winded out there. He was able to get to the basket and to the foul line and keep the game within reach. The whole team is looking forward to having in the rotation, because he really makes things happen on that court."
On the versatility and play of Angus Brandt ...
"We are such a different team when he and Joe (Burton) are out there together. It's such a nice option to have. He's coming into his. We talk about it as a staff that he's going to be real good. He's big and athletic and he can do things. He can shoot the ball. He can makes plays. Today was a good day for him other than not winning the game. I think he felt comfortable out there. I think he felt aggressive. That's what we want to see and we want to see it every game."
On the upcoming schedule ...
"We still have some demons we are facing. We are going to work on that this week. I'm happy that we are on break, because it gives the guys a lot of time to get rest and work on the things they need to work on."
