Women's Golf Completes First Round At Pac-10/SEC Challenge

STANFORD, Calif. - The Oregon State women's golf team completed its first round of the Pac-10/SEC Women's Golf Challenge with a 36-over 320 on Friday at the par-71, 6,148-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Freshman Lauren Sewell led the Beavers with a 78, junior Whitney French shot a 79 and junior Elyse Okada finished with an 81.
"It was a very long and disappointing day for us," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "The team practiced hard afterwards and they are in much better spirits going into tomorrow. The day might have been disappointing, but I think a very important lesson was learned. So we will get up and go play hard tomorrow. This is a great group of players who give their absolute best every day."
UCLA leads the 21-team field with a 1-over 285 and sits a stroke ahead of Arizona and Washington, which both shot a 286. Washington (287) and Arkansas (288) round out the top five.
Joanne Lee of California shot a 6-under 65 to lead the tournament and is followed by Marina Alex of Vanderbilt (66) and Cydney Clanton of Auburn (68).
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins tournament at 7:45 a.m. Oregon State golfers will begin their round off the 10th hole at 9:10 a.m. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available at www.golfstat.com.
