Seattle, Wash. – Sophomore Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) killed a team-high 10 balls, but the Oregon State volleyball team (9-23, 2-16) fell to No. 13 Washington (21-8, 10-8) on Saturday evening (23-25, 17-25, 18-25) to end the Beavers' 2010 season.
“We fought hard tonight,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We covered well in this match, and there were a lot of rallies. It was a really great match by Camille Saxton who was errorless – just a real remarkable turnaround from last night. Megan McBride did a very good job setting, and really good serving by Alyssa O'Neil. It was a good last match, ending careers for the seniors, who really helped build a foundation here.”
Saxton added a pair of blocks and digs to her double-digit kills performance with senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) adding eight of her own with nine digs. Junior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i) tallied seven kills.
Oregon State threatened early, leading Washington from the first point before the Huskies tied the set up at 18 all with Washington taking the slim lead. The Beavers strung together a short three-point run late behind the tough serving of sophomore Alyssa O'Neil (West Linn, Ore.) to pull the team within one at 23-24. But a final kill by Kindra Carlson gave the Huskies the 1-0 advantage.
Washington carried its momentum into the second set to go up 2-0 going into the long break. But the Beavers wouldn't go easily, holding their own in the third set to take the early lead. But the Huskies quickly regained the lead, despite Oregon State's strong play to take the set and match.
Freshman Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) dug up a team-high 13 balls, while sophomore Ashley Eneliko (Seattle, Wash.) had three blocks and three kills in front of the hometown crowd.
Washington was led by Carlson with 19 kills, while libero Jenna Orlandini led the defense with 18 digs adding three aces.
