Head Coach Craig Robinson
On the number of three-pointers shot by the Beavers ...
"It's not just frustrating. It's maddening. We are not a three-point shooting team and our guys know that. This was the first game we've played with this extensive 2-3 zone and we made a couple of shots early and fell in love with it a little bit too much. Our thing is try to get it inside and then if we work it out that's a better shot. But having said that, I thought maybe four of the shots in the whole game were ill-conceived shots. They were all wide open shots. You need to make those if you're playing Division I college basketball. Especially if a team is going to play you zone."
On teams like Seattle and Texas Southern playing loose ...
"Absolutely. I've been a coach in that situation when you're playing a big conference team and playing them on the road; you expect them to be better than you so you have this sense of calm about you. Especially a team like this when they are barnstorming, going from place to place, after awhile they sort of get used to it and are much more relaxed. I don't want to take anything away from them. They played a great second half. We played a better first half. They played a better second half so that's a little disappointing on our part."
On not converting points after turnovers ...
"It was bad execution. We are known for forcing those turnovers. When your defense works that hard to get a steal and you can't convert, that's a bit demoralizing and we need to get better at that."
On losing the last two games after having big leads ...
"We are still learning how to win games when we are ahead. That sounds like a funny thing to say, but when we first got here, we had to learn how to win games period. Last year we had to learn how to win games from behind. Now this year we need to learn how to win games from being in the lead. It's trending upward."
On the importance of the Nike N7 Game and what it meant ...
"It was wonderful to see so many kids who came out to support us. It was terrific to see all of the Beaver fans and it is just too bad that we could not have played better. This was a nice crowd to have in November for a good cause, so there was a little silver lining, but not much."
Senior forward Omari Johnson
On the number of three-pointers in the game ...
"We saw a few go in and got too comfortable with the three. We should have kept going inside like the game plan was, but we just got away from what coach said and it's the player's fault."
On how the team is practicing ...
"We are practicing well and I feel it has been translating to the game. We just haven't been holding onto the lead. Our focus somehow changes and is not where it's supposed to be. We are doing well in practice. We are doing well in the games. We are just not holding onto the lead."
On the leadership of the seniors ...
"It's our fault. We have to lead these young guys and you have to calm them down when they start making mistakes. If we start making mistakes, then we need to pick ourselves up and pick everyone else up, too. We have to do a better job of that the next few games."
Senior guard Calvin Haynes
On being in control and losing the lead ...
"We just got into a three-point shooting contest. We weren't working the ball down low like we should have been doing. They beat us in the paint and at the three-point line and you are not going to beat a team doing stuff like that."
On the struggles of the defense ...
"One of their guys was making shots with a hand in his face. It's kind of hard to stop that. There is nothing you can do about that. He got too many wide open looks. The rotations weren't crisp like they usually are so that's the stuff we need to fix."
