TACOMA, Wash. - The Oregon State women's golf team improved its team score by three strokes on Tuesday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational but fell one spot to ninth place at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club.
The Beavers shot a 15-over 303 at the par-72, 6,078-yard layout after posting a 306 on Monday. The 54-hole tournament features 15 teams, including seven from the Pacific-10 Conference, and will conclude on Wednesday.
"We played much better today in our first nine holes," Oregon State women's head coach Risë Alexander said. "Our score was an improvement over yesterday, which is very encouraging. The entire team is striking the ball very well."
Junior Whitney French continued her strong play with a 1-over 73 to move up to 21st overall and in a tie with freshman teammate Seshia Telles, who posted a 3-over 75 for the second consecutive day. Emily Childs of California carded a second-straight 4-under 68 to lead all individuals.
California is at 9-under 567 to hold a seven-stroke lead over USC, the only other team in the field under par, which sits at 2-under 574."We just had some course management mistakes that cost us five to seven shots," Alexander said. "We will make adjustments for tomorrow. This team is making steady improvement and working extremely hard to improve their performance. I know that our coaching staff is anticipating a solid performance tomorrow."
The final round begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and the Beavers will begin their tee times off the 10th hole at 9:30 a.m. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
