Eugene, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team (8-13, 1-6 Pac-10) was unable to top No. 17 Oregon (16-3, 4-3 Pac-10) on Friday evening, falling in three (15-25, 12-25, 16-25) in the last Civil War to be played in McArthur Court.
“Oregon's game plan was to come out strong in the first set, and they did,' head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We just didn't respond well. We had trouble passing, and couldn't contain Heather Meyers; we couldn't handler her with the block. We have to find a way to keep working hard and get better attack percentage out of her hitters.”
Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) led the Beavers with seven kills, adding a pair of aces and nine digs. Defensively, sophomore Ashley Eneliko (Seattle, Wash.) tallied four blocks with freshman libero Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) digging up eight balls.
Oregon's Heather Meyers paced all hitters with 14 kills, while setter Lauren Plum and libero Haley Jacob both racked up 12 digs each.
Oregon State heads to No. 10 UCLA next on Friday before No. 5 USC on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
Oregon State Notes – Senior Jill Sawatzky is now fifth all-time for career points with 1,546.0.
