CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State hit a school record 14 three-pointers and Omari Johnson led four players in double figures with 18 points to lead the Beavers to a 90-54 win over Howard on Saturday night.
Johnson also grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots and was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc for Oregon State (4-5). Rickey Claitt scored 15 points for the Beavers, and was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers. Lathen Wallace was also perfect from the floor, going 5-of-5, 4-of-4 from behind the arc, to score a season-high 16 points in the win.
Oregon State shot 64.2 percent from the field (34 of 53) in the win and tallied 24 assists, avenging a 47-45 loss at Howard on November 14.
With 14 threes, the Beavers eclipsed the previous single-game mark of 13 three-pointers, achieved three previous times, with the latest occurring on Nov. 30 against, 2001, against Southern Utah.
The 14-for-20 night from 3-point range helped the Beavers in the rout of the Bison, who shot just 5-for-22 from beyond the arc.
Eugene Myatt scored 13 points to lead Howard, while Paul Kirkpatrick added 11.
Howard shot 34.5 percent in the game (20 of 58).
After falling behind 2-0, Oregon State scored 21 straight points and led 42-15 at halftime en route to the easy victory.
Oregon State will return to action on Monday, Dec. 29, as the Beavers will face Seattle at 7:00 p.m.
