SAMMAMISH, Wash.- -
The Oregon State women's golf team completed the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday at the par-72 Sahalee Golf and Country Club and sits in 13th place with a two-day total of 657.
Sophomore Jill Ferrante carded the Beavers' best round of the day with a 79. Ferrante had three birdies on the day and is tied for 52nd overall with a total of 163.
Sophomore Lindsay Eide holds the lowest two-round total on the team with a 161 after a second-round 82 on Tuesday. She is currently tied for 48th. "We scored a little bit better, but it was still a struggle - the golf course is pretty tough," OSU head coach Rise Lakowske said. "They've lengthened it out. We have only one player who has had experience on this course and she's a sophomore, so it's only one year's worth. It's a course where it helps to have experience - there are subtleties, it's tight, and it has huge trees. It's a good experience for our young players."
The tournament concludes on Wednesday.
"They're starting to figure out the greens, how they break, where to be on them, when to be below the hole, that type of thing," Lakowske said of the Beavers. "They're definitely getting a better feel for course, so we should see better numbers on Wednesday."
Oklahoma State kept its lead Tuesday and maintains a seven-stroke advantage over Oregon going into the final round with a 597. The Ducks are one stroke ahead of third-place Pepperdine.
First-round leader Karin Sjodin barely held on to her advantage Tuesday after firing a 1-over 73 and leads Oklahoma State teammate Annie Thurman by just one stroke going into the final round. Thurman's 2-under 70 was the low round on the day.
Freshmen Julie Uhrik and Jessi Gebhardt each posted an 81 Tuesday. Uhrik is tied for 59th and Gebhardt is tied for 62nd.
Senior Kelly Kerkvliet is in 70th.
The final round begins Wednesday morning at 8:00 PST.
