CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - David Lucas had 11 points and 10 rebounds to give Oregon State a 71-59 victory over injury-hampered Jackson State Sunday afternoon.
Chris Stephens added 15 points for the Beavers (6-4), who have won four of their last six games.
Jackson State, making the final stop on an eight-game road trip, was without starters Michael Travis and Leonard Taylor, who both had ankle injuries from the Tigers' 69-56 loss to South Alabama on Tuesday.
Ishmael Joyce finished with 14 points for the Tigers (2-7).
After taking a narrow 28-26 lead after a back-and-forth first half, the Beavers jumped ahead 35-29 on Lamar Hurd's slam early in the second.
Oregon State, coming off a 76-73 victory over Sacramento State last Monday, went up 44-34 on J.S. Nash's layup, and went on to lead by as many as 24 points.
Jackson State jumped out 8-2 early in the game, but the Beavers quickly made up the difference, and took an 11-10 lead on Jim Hanchett's dunk.
But the Tigers were tenacious, and hung in despite their injury problems.
The Beavers appeared to take control when Vic Remmers' 3-pointer put them up 16-14, but Jackson State kept up and took a 21-19 lead on K.C. Cavette's layup.
The two teams were tied at 26 with 35.8 seconds left, but Nash's pair of free throws gave the Beavers the halftime edge.
The game was the last tune up for both teams as they ready for their conference schedules. Oregon State visits Pac-10 foe UCLA on Friday night, while Jackson State hosts Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Alabama A&M on Saturday.
