OSU HEAD COACH JUDY SPOELSTRA QUOTES
On Oregon and their players:
"You have got to give Oregon a lot of credit because a lot of their players stepped up. I thought Brandi Davis (16 points, 4 assists) was a handful in the first half and Carolyn Ganes (12 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds) hit some great shots."
On the play of Hollye Chapman (16 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds) and Kristina Rukstelyte:
"Hollye made it very clear that she was here to play. I thought Kristina made some great passes and played some great defense."
On the play of Brina Chaney (6 points, 2 assists, 8 blocks:
"Brina leads the conference in blocked shots and she is a force to be reckoned with in there."
On the play of Casey Bunn (20 points career high, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals):
"Casey came in and did a super job of crashing the boards and driving to the basket."
"If you ask Casey why she came to Oregon State I think she would say she came here to beat the Ducks."
"I think Casey played very aggressively early and did a good job, She really settled down and got to the basket very aggressively."
On what the team discussed at half time:
"I think you could sense from our players that they had a lot of confidence, they were busy talking and focused in the locker room. We said that this is exactly where we were last week with California in the second half where we felt like we played very tough. We said that if it is a game of runs in the second half it is going to be a game of little mini runs, and we wanted to make sure that we could hang in there and make the biggest run of all. We wanted to execute our offense a lot better in the second half and we felt like we needed to settle down a little bit. We shot quite a few air balls in the first half because I think we were a little nervous. I think that is also where we got our moving screens from, we were just in too much of a hurry."
On the play of Leilani Estavan (15 points, 7 assists):
"We were trying to call a couple of plays specifically for Leilani because we could really tell in the first half that it looked like she was shooting the ball very well. She wasn't missing anything left or right. The shot that she made in the first half and even at half time when I was watching her shoot, her shots were dead on. She was just hitting nothing but net, so we thought we would run a couple of plays for her. She usually steps up in big games and she did it again."
OREGON HEAD COACH BEV SMITH
On the second half:
"If you look at the statistics there are a couple of things that are disappointing for us. OSU shot 72 percent in the second half and we were out-rebounded (37-30 in Oregon State's favor). We just didn't have the same pressure on the ball (in the second half) and that allowed them to throw the ball over. Oregon State was patient and moved the ball."
On the play of OSU's Casey Bunn (career-high 20 points, nine rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench):
"In the zone I thought we were a little too aggressive and too anticipatory to get out on the shooters. We needed to stay in until the ball went over, and she took advantage of cutting behind our defense. I thought she did a great job of going to the weak-side boards."
On Oregon's offense
"I don't think we made any adjustments to their defensive pressure. They did a very good job jamming our post players. Chapman is a smart player and so is Chaney (eight blocks). We didn't move the ball well. We tried to score within three passes and emotionally got wound up and didn't spread them out."
