CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Bryan Bracey had 19 points and 11 rebounds as Oregon survived an awful first half to defeat Oregon State 69-60 Saturday night.
The Ducks (14-14, 5-13 Pac-10) had lost eight of nine, but their second victory of the season against Oregon State made them eligible for the National Invitation Tournament.
Jason Heide, one of three seniors playing his last game at Oregon State, had 13 points and nine rebounds. Brian Jackson added 10 before fouling out for the 11th time this season, with 11:31 to play.
For the first time in 82 years, the Beavers (10-20, 4-14) won fewer games in a season than the school's football team. During the 1919 season, the football team went 4-4-1, while the basketball team was 3-13. This season's football team finished 11-1.
Oregon State got within 31-29 on a 3-pointer from Josh Steinthal with 14:36 to play, but the Ducks pulled away from there. The lead reached 13 before the Beavers twice cut it to four, the last time coming with 2:29 left.
But the Beavers' Jimmie Haywood lost the ball out of bounds, and at the other end, Julius Hicks followed Bracey's airball with a two-handed dunk to push the lead to 56-50 with 1:31 left.
Freddie Jones added 14 points for the Ducks, who have won 15 of 16 against Oregon State.
The Beavers were just 7-of-30 from 3-point range.
Both teams were simply horrendous in the first half. Oregon State started off the game by making just two of 16 shots, while Oregon was 5-for-18. The Beavers shot 25 percent in the half, and the Ducks just under 30 percent.
After Jackson opened the game with a layup, Oregon State didn't get another basket for more than 8 1/2 minutes. The Ducks weren't much better, however, and they managed only a 9-3 lead.
Trailing 15-5 after more than 13 minutes, the Beavers warmed up a little, converting four straight baskets and getting within 17-16. Haywood hit a 3-pointer, and Jackson finished an 11-2 run with a fastbreak layup after teammate Mike Cokley had blocked Luke Ridnour's 3-point attempt.
A 3-pointer by Oregon's Ben Lindquist was the only field goal in the last three minutes, and the Ducks capped the forgettable first 20 minutes by taking a 23-19 lead.
Oregon State point guard Deaundra Tanner had just four points on 1-of-9 shooting in his final game. The other senior, Steinthal, had 12 points.
