LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Oregon State missed out on early scoring chances Friday afternoon and lost 2-0 to Loyola Marymount in non-league men's soccer. The Beavers (2-4-0 overall) outshot LMU (3-5-0) by a 17-11 margin but couldn't convert four chances inside the six-yard box in the first 10 minutes.
"This one kind of hurt," OSU head coach Dana Taylor said. "This one stung a bit because we really let it get away from us."
After Oregon State couldn't find the net early, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Eric Kim scored off assists from Arturo Torres and Michael Coakley. The Beavers stayed just a goal away from tying the game until the 72nd minute, when Torres scored off assists from Nick Kesich and Derick Stickel.
"We had four golden opportunities and we didn't finish them, they had one golden opportunity and they didn't finish it, either," Taylor said. "But they scored two very good goals. We didn't give up a couple of bad goals - they had to work for them."
"In many ways, for 90 minutes, we did very, very well. But you've got to put the ball in the back of the net - that's what makes it a complete game. We were unable to finish our opportunities and they did, even though we had the majority of play."
OSU finishes its road trip when it plays at 11th-ranked UCLA at 2 p.m. Sunday.
