LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Too many upperclassmen and too much experience was the key to UCLA's 3-0 victory over Oregon State in Los Angeles. The Beavers (2-5-0 overall) stayed in the match for most of the first half, but two second half goals by the Bruins (6-1-0) put it out of reach.
"UCLA is a very talented team," OSU head coach Dana Taylor said. "They had a lot of good players with a lot of experience."
Bruin senior Shen Travis started the scoring in the 26th minute with a left-footed shot past Beaver goalkeeper Bryan Hill. UCLA added goals in the second half by Scot Thompson and Ryan Futagaki the 75th and 86th minutes, respectively, to create a three-goal cushion.
"I thought the first 20 minutes was all UCLA," Taylor said. "It took a while to make adjustments. We are proud of the team for working hard. We learned a lot of valuable lessons and we are looking forward to coming home."
After a long road trip, the Beavers will be returning home this coming Saturday when they host Western Washington at 1p.m. in Corvallis.
