PORTLAND, Ore. - Katie Henderson scored Oregon State's lone goal as the Beavers lost to third-ranked Portland 8-1 Saturday evening in the women's soccer season-opener for both teams. OSU's next action will be another non-league game at Gonzaga on Wednesday.
In Saturday's contest at Merlo Field, Portland picked up four goals in each half. The Pilots - who reached the national semifinals last season - got two goals and three assists from Susanna Heikari in the victory.
OSU trailed 6-0 before Henderson netted her goal in the 61st minute. She was dragged down by one of the Pilots just inside the UP box, and Henderson's penalty kick got past Portland goalkeeper Cheryl Loveless.
