TEMPE, Ariz. - Oregon State finished its women's soccer season with a 2-1 loss at Arizona State in Pacific-10 play Sunday afternoon. The Beavers (8-11-1 overall, 1-8-0 Pacific-10) outshot the Sun Devils (13-6-0, 5-4-0) by a 19-14 margin but could manage only an unassisted goal by Leila Kaady in the 70th minute.
"We played very well," said OSU head coach Steve Fennah, who completed his second season at the school. "We had a bunch of opportunities, but their goalkeeper (Erin Reinke) came up with several big saves."
Reinke finished with 11 saves as most of OSU's shots were on-target, but ASU goals midway through the first half and early in the second half put the Sun Devils in control. The Beavers drew within a goal when Kaady scored from 20 yards out, tucking the ball into the corner of the net to make it 2-1.
"Then we pecked at their goal quite a bit, but we couldn't get that final touch to put it in the net," Fennah said. "At least we finished well in a game. It was another unfortunate result - we just had too many could-have-beens this season. But the youngsters came off the field knowing that we're moving in the right direction."
