CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State gave up three first-half goals on the way to a 4-0 loss to Oregon in Pacific-10 women's soccer Saturday afternoon at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium. The Beavers (7-6-1 overall, 0-3-0 Pacific-10) now go on the road next week to play at Washington on Friday at 3 p.m. and at Washington State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Against Oregon (5-8-0, 1-2-0), OSU never got itself on track after falling behind in the 11th minute.
"Obviously, it's very disappointing," Oregon State head coach Steve Fennah said. "You come into a game like this with so much excitement, people have seen how well the team has done so far this year, there's a big crowd and you've got the party there ...
"Then you don't show up for it. People didn't see the true Oregon State team today."
Oregon picked up its first goal when Julie McLellan ran onto a loose ball about eight yards out and booted it home. The Ducks made it 2-0 in the 35th minute when Carrie McLanahan was awarded a free kick just on the OSU side of midfield, and her lob toward the goal snuck between the crossbar and the hands of Beaver goalkeeper Elizabeth Pease.
Oregon scored again just over five minutes later as another loose ball in the OSU box headed for Chalise Baysa, who volleyed it in from about six yards out. The Ducks' final goal was the result of an OSU misplay, as Erin Anderson had a simple tap-in near the right post in the 65th minute.
"Goals went in against us today that we never concede," Fennah said. "It was an all-around flat performance. Everything that we could do wrong, we did, everything they could do right, they did."
Now Fennah is eager to see how the Beavers respond.
"We still have a winning record," Fennah said. "We go on to two games (at Washington and Washington State) that we're excited about playing, and this game doesn't change that."
