Scott Nelson joined Oregon State University as Assistant Athletic Director for Development in August 2012. He is responsible for the supervision and management of the Beaver Athletic Student Fund (BASF) while functioning as a key fundraiser responsible for capital projects, scholarship endowments, sport specific fundraising and planned gifts.
Nelson arrived at Oregon State after serving as Director of Development at The Ohio State University. During his tenure at Ohio State, Nelson served on a team which raised in excess of $81 million over a two-year time period. This total represents the most successful two-year run in university history. His efforts assisted in major facility enhancements, including a basketball practice facility expansion, an indoor golf practice facility and an outdoor tennis facility.
From 2007 to 2010, Nelson served as Assistant Director of the Wooden Athletic Fund at UCLA. During this time, Nelson saw income from the Wooden Athletic Fund grow from $6.5 million to more than $8.2 million. In addition, he worked to secure gift commitments for the $100 million Campaign of Champions to support the renovation of historic Pauley Pavilion. Nelson also engineered the operation of 20 Olympic Sport Annual Funds that contributed a combined total of more $1 million to team operating budgets.
A 2005 graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Nelson holds a degree in political science & sports management in addition to a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington (2007). Nelson is a native of Colusa, Calif., and resides in Corvallis with his wife Lindsey.
