Dan Rowe
- Title:
- Nickels Coach
Dan Rowe will join the Oregon State football program as the Nickels Coach, Head Coach JaMarcus Shephard has announced.
Â
"Dan Rowe has been with me at a number of different stops on the West Coast and Midwest, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and great communication skills," Shephard said. "He is the ultimate people person. He will continue to develop relationships with our players, staff and everyone involved in this community. He is a true players coach."
Â
Rowe spent the past two seasons at Louisville University as a defensive quality control specialist/recruiting, working primarily with the secondary. The defense had major improvements from his first to second year, climbing from 64th to 17th nationally in total defense, 100th to 25th in passing defense, 36th to 18th in third-down defense, 97th to second in opponent plays of 40-plus yards, and 68th to 12th in points per drive.
Â
"I am honored that Coach Shephard has chosen me as part of his first staff at Oregon State University," Rowe said. "This is a proud program with rich history, and I look forward to helping develop the young men of our team as they climb to reach their dreams and goals as Beavers. I have ultimate confidence that Coach Shephard's leadership will elevate the program to the standards all alumni, fans and university associates will take pride in."
Â
The appointment is contingent on the completion of all university hiring processes.
Â
Rowe was hired at Purdue University in 2017 and spent four seasons there as defensive quality control. He then worked for two years at Alderson Broaddus University as the defensive coordinator and one season at Western Kentucky as a defensive analyst.
Â
He was a defensive graduate assistant at Washington State in 2016 and helped lead the Cougars to an 8-5 record and trip to the Holiday Bowl.
Â
Rowe spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Western Kentucky, helping lead the Hilltoppers to a combined 20-7 record with wins in the 2014 Bahamas Bowl, 2015 Conference USA Championship Game and 2015 Miami Beach Bowl.
Â
Western Kentucky's scoring defense improved from 39.8 points per game (120th in the Football Bowl Subdivision) in 2014 to 25.9 (50th) in 2015, while finishing second in the nation with 31 turnovers created in his final season on staff.
Â
Rowe spent two seasons as a defensive assistant and video coordinator at Yale (2010-11), one season as a defensive and special teams graduate assistant at Wyoming (2012) and one season as assistant offensive line coach at Northern Michigan (2013).
