Abbie Wright joined the Oregon State staff in January 2023 behind head coaching stints at the Division I and II levels and just completed her second season in Corvallis. Additionally, she leads the program recruiting efforts as the recruiting coordinator.
In June 2024, she was elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach by Head Coach Lindsey Behonick.
Wright has helped guide the Oregon State program to memorable moments in her two years on the staff. In the 2024 season, she assisted in guiding a pair - Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel - to first team All-WCC honors as well as the first Beaver - Elly Schraeder - to sign with a professional team in the Behonick era. Two freshmen - Emma Lilo and Yasemin Narlioglu - completed their first seasons inside the top 10 for freshmen in assists and digs, respectively.
During the 2023 season, Oregon State rattled off six wins in a seven-match stretch which featured two over ranked opponents and dominant ones on the road. The Beavers used a pair of five-set stunners over No. 19 Arizona State for their first league win of the year before knocking off sixth-ranked Washington State on the Palouse to cap an undefeated weekend in Washington.
Some of the highlights of the seasons included:
Wright returned to the Pacific Northwest after leading Fresno State as their interim head coach for the 2022 season following a successful tenure leading Seattle Pacific. In her time with the Falcons, she directed them to 65 wins, including a 15-10 mark in 2021.
As an assistant coach of her alma mater, Wright helped lead Biola to four NAIA National Tournament appearances from 2013-16. During her first year there in 2013, the Eagles reached the NAIA national championship match. Biola returned to the national tournament in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and posted a 115-24 (.827) overall mark in her four-year stretch on the sideline.
In 2015, the program achieved its first-ever No. 1 national ranking while winning 30 matches and Wright earned the AVCA / NAIA Southwest Region and National Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
A setter in her playing days at Biola, Wright still owns program records for most matches played (143), most sets played (508), and service aces (182). Her teams made it to NAIA national tournament all four years, advancing to the semifinals in 2007 and 2008, and to the quarterfinals in 2010.
Following the 2016 season, Wright was named to the "30 Under 30" list by the American Volleyball Coaches Association which recognizes top coaches across all levels of the game who are age 30 or younger.
