A native Oregonian and veteran high school and community college cross country and distance coach, Christine Eckstein, joined Louie Quintana’s Oregon State staff in the summer of 2023.
Eckstein, most recently the distance coach for Crook Country High School, will assist Quintana with the distance and cross country teams throughout the season. While with Crook Country, Eckstein coached four athletes who made the Oregon State meet, with three placing top-eight and earning a spot on the podium. Both the girls and boys teams at CCHS won the district title as well.
Crook Country marked Eckstein’s third season of high school coaching after a stint as the head cross country coach at Elgin High School in 2015. Between then, she spent several years as a community college coach at Treasure Valley, Mt. Hood and Clark College. At Mt. Hood CC, Eckstein was the head cross country and assistant track coach for two seasons.
Her time coaching in the community college ranks came after a distinguished career in the NWAC and at Eastern Oregon University. Eckstein competed at Clark and the Community Colleges of Spokane, earning five All-American honors between the two.
After moving on to EOU, Eckstein was a three-time All-Conference honoree and a four-time NAIA National Qualifier between track and cross country. She raced primarily in the middle distances on the track, finishing seventh in the 800m as a senior to become an All-American.
Eckstein graduated from EOU in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
