Matt Bersano joined the Oregon State men's soccer staff prior to the 2025 season.
In his first year with the Beavers, Bersano helped Oregon State to a 10-5-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers' season featured a nine-match unbeaten run, as well as a season-opening victory over eventual national champions Washington. Oregon State ended the season ranked No. 19 in the nation.
Individually, Arnau Farnos was named an All-American, and Farnos joined Andrew De Gannes on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team. Lucas Fernandez Kim was selected in the MLS SuperDraft.
Bersano, who was a goalkeeper for the Beavers from 2011-2014, joined the Oregon State staff after a nine-year professional career, primarily in Major League Soccer. MBersano spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Austin FC. Prior to that, he was a part of the San Jose Earthquakes organization, with his run there spanning 2017-22. His professional career also featured stops at the Seattle Sounders and Reno 1868 FC.
Bersano has amassed significant coaching experience during his career, serving as an assistant coach at Southwestern University in 2023. He was also a Volunteer Assistant for UC Santa Cruz in 2021 and operated as a player-coach for Reno 1868 FC in the USL Championship from 2017-19.
During his career with Oregon State, Bersano was a two-time All-Pac-12 honoree and a four-time All-Academic selection. His name remains heavily featured in the Oregon State record books, as he holds the program's single-season mark for saves and is among the top five in program history for career saves, shutouts and goals against average.
Bersano graduated from Oregon State with a B.A. in Speech Communication. He then went on to get his MBA in Sports Management at Southern New Hampshire University
