Mitch Thompson enters his second year with the Oregon State men’s basketball program as the video coordinator.
A native of Hermiston, Ore., Thompson is making his second stop with the Beavers. He was a student manager at Oregon State in 2013 and coached high school basketball in Eastern Oregon for two years before taking on his current position.
Thompson was the head boys’ basketball coach and educational assistant at Irrigon High School. He led the Knights to 44-9 overall record and a 17-3 mark in the Columbia Basin Conference, highlighted by a Class 2A state championship during the 2014-2015 season.
He was named Oregon Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2015 and is the youngest coach to ever win a basketball state championship in Oregon.
Thompson’s responsibilities at Oregon State include breaking down game and practice film, and creating player development edits. He also assists with summer basketball camps.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2016 from Oregon State and is pursuing his masters in interdisciplinary studies. He graduated from Hermiston High School in 2010, where he was a varsity letterman in basketball and track and field.
Thompson, the son of Joe and Cindy Thompson, was born on Nov. 19, 1991 in Hermiston, Ore. His cousin was the late former Oregon State Athletic Director Jim Barratt, who hired Ralph Miller in 1970.
