The New Starter on the Offensive Line (GT, 4/18/11)
OREGON STATE – 2014: Signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. 2013: Josh, known best as “Juice” on the OSU campus, is one of two linemen, along with Michael Philipp, to start all 13 games – all at left guard … finished his career with 32 career starts including 30 in a row … extremely consistent player. 2012: Josh started all 12 games at left guard. 2011: Moved from center to left guard during the spring practice session and had won the job by the end of spring … began the season as the starter at left guard before injuring his right knee at Wisconsin and missed the next three games (UCLA, Arizona State and Arizona) … finally returned to action off the bench at Utah … returned to the starting lineup the next week against Stanford and started the final four games (six in all). 2010: Saw action in the final six games, mostly on special teams … primary back-up center. 2009: Redshirt.
COLONY: Started three seasons at offensive tackle … earned first team All-Mt. Baldy League three times at tackle … earned All-CIF Central Division honors three times … Rivals.com three-star athlete and rated the 56th-best offensive guard in the nation … helped Colony to the CIF-Central Division title … 36 tackles as a senior as a defensive lineman … also played power forward for Colony’s basketball team.
PERSONAL: Born June 21, 1991 in Los Angeles … son of Nate and Tanya Smith … has two siblings, Darrell and Devin … cousin, Daniel Drayton, played safety for the Beavers 2004-07 … participated in Beavers Without Borders trip to Silti, Ethiopia in the summer of 2012 – built two houses for underprivileged families … chose Oregon State because “I really like the coaches and I feel they can teach me a lot. Also I fell in love with the community at OSU and I get along with the players really well. But the most important reason is I can get a good education at Oregon State” … graduated in December with a degree in sociology.
