Revenue Sharing & NIL: Quick FAQs
Q: What is student-athlete revenue sharing?
A: Revenue sharing is when Oregon State Athletics uses department resources to provide funds directly to student-athletes. This support is coordinated by the athletic department and helps many student-athletes across teams.
Q: What is Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)?
A: NIL lets student-athletes earn money from outside businesses for things like ads, appearances, or social media. These deals are made directly with the student-athlete, not the athletic department.
Q: What’s the biggest difference between revenue sharing and NIL?
A: Revenue sharing comes from Oregon State Athletics resources. NIL comes from outside sources, such as businesses or individuals' funds. They are separate and work in different ways.
Q: Can student-athletes receive both revenue sharing and NIL?
A: Yes. Student-athletes may receive support from the athletic department through revenue sharing and earn money through NIL deals at the same time.
Q: Does revenue sharing have a spending limit?
A: Yes. Revenue sharing is subject to a national spending cap established through the House vs. NCAA settlement, which limits how much each school can share each year. Oregon State must track and report this support.
For the 2025–26 academic year, participating schools may distribute up to 22% of average Power Conference revenues, which equates to approximately $20.5 million per institution
Q: Does NIL count toward the revenue-sharing cap?
A: No. Money from NIL deals does not count toward the revenue-sharing cap because it comes from outside the athletic department.
Q: How can fans support revenue sharing?
A: Fans can support Oregon State Athletics revenue sharing by becoming an Our Beaver Nation Member. Donations offer tax-deductible options that support student-athletes and build memories for fans. To learn more about Our Beaver Nation Membership, click here.
Q: How can fans support NIL?
A: Companies can support NIL through Beaver Sports Properties, Beaver Advantage (click here) program or by working directly with student-athletes through the Woodshop (click here). These are separate from athletic department resources.
