OSU Softball?s Arriola, USA Win JWWC Gold

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State rising sophomore infielder McKenna Arriola and the USA Junior National Team took home gold in the 2015 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women’s World Championship (JWWC), wrapping up the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Japan in the gold medal game.
The USA Junior National Team showed unprecedented dominance throughout the tournament, winning all 10 games played, while outscoring opponents 119-6. USA’s gold medal finish in the JWWC clinched the fifth in program history, tying Japan for most all-time.
OSU's Arriola appeared in four games for the Stars and Stripes, posting a .500 on-base percentage over that span with four runs scored and an RBI.
The West Hills, Calif. native started all 52 games for OSU during her freshman campaign, batting .262 with a pair of home runs, 19 RBI and a .328 on-base percentage. Arriola swiped a team-high seven bases in 2015, converting each attempt, while also ranking second on the squad with 39 runs scored.
Arriola headlines a crew of OSU softball players slated to return in 2016 as one of three OSU freshman to earn Pac-12 honors, along with first baseman Alysha Everett and outfielder Lovie Lopez. The three rising sophomores will be joined by All-Pac-12 first baseman Natalie Hampton, infielder/outfielder Mikela Manewa and right-hander Beverly Miller, as well as an incoming class of six newcomers.
