Osich Makes MLB Debut

WASHINGTON D.C. – Josh Osich made his Major League Baseball debut on Friday night, tossing a scoreless eighth inning for the San Francisco Giants at Nationals Park. Osich became the 30th former Oregon State player to appear at the Major League level.
Osich entered in the eighth inning against the Nationals, relieving Hunter Strickland. He walked Denard Span, then struck out Danny Espinosa. Osich then walked Yunel Escobar before getting Bryce Harper and Clint Robertson on consecutive flyouts.
The left-hander was caught by Andrew Susac, making it the first time school history that two Beavers formed a battery at the big league level.
Osich is the fifth former Beaver currently in the “bigs,” joining Susac, Jacoby Ellsbury (New York Yankees), Daniel Robertson (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and Cole Gillespie (Miami Marlins). Darwin Barney (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Matt Boyd (Toronto Blue Jays) have both appeared at the game’s biggest stage this season as well.
Osich pitched for the Beavers from 2008-11, missing the entire 2010 season due to injury. The Boise, Idaho, native went 6-6 with a 4.08 earned run average, collecting one save and 132 strikeouts in 128 innings.
His Oregon State career was best known for a 2011 no-hitter against UCLA and then-future Major Leaguer Trevor Bauer. His lone blemish in the game was a 3-2 walk to Dean Espy in the fourth inning. He and Bauer combined to strike out 28 batters in that game, with Osich collecting 13.
Fifteen of the 30 MLB Beavers played under current head coach Pat Casey. Susac, Boyd, Robertson and Osich have all made their debuts since the start of the 2014 season.
