Berg, USA Take Silver

TORONTO – Oregon State head coach Laura Berg and the USA Softball Team took home a silver medal at the Pan-American Games, their second medal of the summer after the team won gold at the World Cup of Softball earlier this month.
Team USA finished the tournament with a 6-1 record, and outscored its opponents by a combined score of 50-10 during that span. Kellie Fox led the way for the American squad, hitting. 563 with three home runs in the event, while driving in six runs. Sierra Romero hit .445 with eight RBIs, while Sara Nevins struck out 21 batters in five appearances in the circle, posting a 0.40 ERA.
The Americans started the event with a perfect 6-0 record, before falling to host nation Canada in the Gold Medal Game.
Berg has continued her legacy with the national team in a coaching capacity after a playing career that saw her become the most decorated USA Softball Olympic athlete in history, helping her nation to three golds (1996 - Atlanta, 2000 - Sydney, 2004 - Athens) and one silver (2008 - Beijing). She won 11 total medals as a player, 10 gold, while competing for the U.S. in the Olympic Games, the ISF Women's World Championship and the Pan American Games.
