Taylor Scores to Help England Advance

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Former Oregon State women’s soccer player Jodie Taylor scored to help England top host Canada 2-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Saturday afternoon in Vancouver. The victory put England through to the World Cup Semifinal for the first time in history. The Three Lions will advance to take on Japan Wednesday.
Taylor’s goal came in the 11th minute, when she fired a right-footed shot across goal, inside the post. The score came in Taylor’s third appearance and first start of the World Cup. She also tallied an assist in last Monday’s win over Norway.
Saturday’s goal was the fifth of Taylor’s international career, which began on March 8, 2014. The Portland Thorns’ forward is Oregon State’s career leader with 47 goals, leading the team in points each of her four years (2004-07). During her tenure, Taylor earned Pac-10 First Team honors four times, as well as a trio of NSCAA Far West All-Region honors.
England’s match against Japan on Wednesday can be viewed on Fox Sports 1 at 4 p.m. PT.
