McWilliams Wins Oregon Sports Award

CORVALLIS – Oregon State women’s basketball signee Katie McWilliams won the Oregon Sports Award for Best Prep Basketball Athlete Thursday evening.
Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck presented McWilliams with the award at Thursday’s ceremony, which was held at Nike Headquarters. Rueck and center Ruth Hamblin were also nominated for Oregon Sports Awards.
McWilliams, who committed to the Beavers as part of a three-player signing class in November, will join Oregon State with a five-star rating from ESPN. The 6-foot-2 guard is the No. 40 ranked player overall and is eighth in ESPN’s guard rankings.
ESPN scout on McWilliams:
“Agile perimeter prospect with versatility; length with mid-range game creativity to the arc; handles in uptempo, breaks down defender, finishes in traffic; consistent offensive producer with next-level backcourt size.”
McWilliams, a longtime Beaver fan, made first team all-state the last two seasons, while competing for South Salem High School. She earned All-Greater Valley Conference honors in all four of her high school seasons, and served as a team captain. McWilliams was also the Gatorade Oregon Girls Basketball Player of the Year in her senior year. She averaged 15.5 points per game, to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in her final high school campaign.
On April 10, the Beavers announced an international tour to Italy this summer. For more information, click here.
