Last Game
Andrew Moore was masterful in the series opener against Utah, holding the Utes to six hits in a shutout victory, 3-0. Moore did not walk a batter and allowed seven baserunners - six via singles and one due to an error - in his fifth win of the season. Billy King doubled home two in the fourth and Elliott Cary pushed Oregon State to the 3-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Casey For 9th
Head coach Pat Casey is sitting at 747 wins all-time at Oregon State, which now ties him with UCLA’s Art Reichle for the ninth most in Pac-12 history.
The Freshmen Are Alright
Christian Donahue and Elliott Cary come into Saturday’s game on concurrent five-game hit streaks. Cary is 8-for-23 (.348) with four runs batted in during his streak, while Donahue is 10-for-24 (.417) with seven runs scored.
No Earned Runs = Wins
Oregon State’s pitching staff has allowed three runs overall over the last three games, and none have been earned. The staff, in fact, has allowed just 15 hits over the 27 innings. OSU’s team earned run average now stands at 3.14, the lowest mark since April 19 when it was at 3.06.
Strong At Home
Not shockingly, the Beavers have been strong at Goss Stadium this season, taking a 20-4 mark there into the series vs. the Utes. The club has now hit the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season and for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Beavers, who are 8-2 in Pac-12 play at home, last had a losing conference mark at Goss in 2007.
Singles
• Oregon State is 21-3 this season when its pitchers issue three walks or less in a game.
• The Beavers are also 22-0 when an opponent scores two runs or less. OSU is 15-0 in such games at home.
• Andrew Moore’s shutout on Friday night lowered the starters’ ERA 10 points to 2.95.
• The Beavers have allowed Utah to score six runs all-time at Goss Stadium over four games dating back to 2010.
• Friday’s shutout was the team’s 30th since the 2013 campaign. The Beavers have been shut out twice over that stretch, both in 2013.
• OSU remains four games out of first place in the Pac-12 but is now one game shy of second.
• Billy King has three doubles and five RBI in his last two games.
