Anica Yoo In Contention For NCAA Nationals

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Anica Yoo carded a 3-under 69 in the second round of the three-day, 54-hole NCAA Division I Women‘s Golf Regionals on Friday, putting her in contention for an automatic bid to the NCAA Nationals.
Yoo had five birdies in her second round, including two in the final three holes, at the par-72, 6,350-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club and sits in nnth place with a 5-under 70-69--139.
The low six teams and low three individuals (not on those teams) will advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, taking place Friday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 27 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Yoo is currently fourth for one of the individual bids but only a stroke behind the three players ahead of her -- Kelsey Ulep of Oregon, Morgane Metraux of Florida State and Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas -- who all are tied for fourth place with a 6-under 138.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole event will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT (5:30 a.m. PT) with tee times off the first and 10th holes and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
“Anica shot a real smooth and steady 69 today to back up her 70 yesterday that puts her at 5 under,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “She and Dawn (Shockley) worked real well today managing the golf course and it was just real clean and steady.
“She finished strong with two birdies coming in and put herself in a good position going into tomorrow to be in the fight for one of those three individual spots. We are super proud and happy for her. She stayed with her routine, stayed in the present and really took it one hole and one shot at a time.
“It’s fun to have her in the thick of it. She’s hitting it well and putting it well. Her mind really seems to be in a great place. We’ll get some rest tonight and look forward to teeing it up tomorrow, have some fun and see how it adds up at the end of the day.”
Yoo, a senior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, has been on fire of late with four under-par scores in her last six rounds. The 3-under 69 is just one shot short of her career high, and the Oregon State single-round record (4-under 68), which she shot at both the Westbrook Spring Invitational and Silverado Showdown this spring.
She has nine birdies in the first two rounds at the San Antonio Regional and an impressive scoring average of 2.75 on the par 3’s.
