Byrd Sets Javelin Mark at UO Twilight Meet

Eugene, Ore. – Oregon State’s McKenzie Byrd set a school record in the javelin on Friday night to lead a small contingent of Beavers at the Oregon Twilight Meet at Hayward Field.
A freshman from Irrigon who graduated from Hermiston High School, Byrd took sixth in the event with a throw of 140 feet, 11 inches, a personal-best by more than a foot. It broke the old record of 140-5, set last year by Christina McDonald, by six inches; Byrd’s former PR was 139-7.
Sophomore Helen Ann Haun tied for first place in the pole vault by clearing 11-9.75.
Junior Bethany Imperial placed fourth in the triple jump in 37-3.75, a personal-best and the No. 3 all-time mark at OSU. Senior Laura Schaudt also PRed with a jump of 35-5.25, the No. 6 all-time mark in school history.
The Beavers resume action on May 16-17 at the Pacific-12 Conference Championships at UCLA.
