Last Game
Billy King and KJ Harrison each drove in three runs to pace the Beavers to a 10-2 midweek win over Oregon Tuesday night at Goss Stadium. King doubled twice to pace the Beavers offensively as the club finished with 13 hits off five Oregon pitchers. Sam Tweedt started and earned his seventh win after allowing three hits and two unearned runs over 5 2/3 innings. Luke Heimlich worked the final 3 1/3 innings for his third save of the season.
Casey For 9th
Head coach Pat Casey is sitting at 746 wins all-time at Oregon State, which is 10th in Pac-12 Conference history. His 747th will tie him with UCLA’s Art Reichle for ninth.
The Freshmen Are Alright
Christian Donahue and Elliott Cary come into Friday’s opener on concurrent five-game hit streaks. Cary is 6-for-20 (.300) with three runs batted in during his streak, while Donahue is 9-for-21 (.429) with six runs scored.
Then There Is Hendrix
Jeff Hendrix picked up only one official at bat in Tuesday’s win, but made it count, singling home two. He also produced a sac bunt and three walks. Why is this key? The single allowed him to extend his hit streak to 11 games, where is 17-for-33 (.515) with eight runs scored, 10 RBI, 10 walks, four doubles and two triples.
Strong At Home
Not shockingly, the Beavers have been strong at Goss Stadium this season, taking a 19-4 mark there into the series vs. the Utes. The club will be looking to hit the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season and for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Beavers, who are 7-2 in Pac-12 play at home, last had a losing conference mark at Goss in 2007.
Singles
• Oregon State is 20-3 this season when its pitchers issue three walks or less in a game.
• The Beavers are also 21-0 when an opponent scores two runs or less.
• Nine of the team’s 10 starters in Tuesday’s win were either freshmen or sophomores, the lone exception junior center fielder Jeff Hendrix. The nine starters combined for 12 hits, eight RBI and a win in the form of starter Sam Tweedt.
• OSU’s bullpen is 7-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 51 innings at home this season. It is a perfect 6-for-6 in save opportunities.
• The Beavers have allowed Utah to score six runs all-time at Goss Stadium over four games dating back to 2010.
