Last Game
Kyle Nobach’s eighth-inning double snapped a 4-4 tie and sent the Beavers to a 5-4 win over Texas Friday afternoon in Dallas. Nobach finished the game with two RBI. Mitch Hickey came on in the ninth and recorded his 11th save of the season.
Everyone In On The Action
Friday’s game was truly a team effort as Oregon State recorded 12 hits in the win. Every OSU starter tallied at least one, with Billy King, Christian Donahue and Kyle Nobach all recording two.
First Timers
Oregon State started five players in Friday’s game who made their postseason debuts. Christian Donahue, KJ Harrison, Elliott Cary, Kyle Nobach and Michael Gretler combined to go 7-for-17 (.412) with four RBI in the win, including Nobach’s game-winner in the eighth. Additionally, relievers Scotland Church and Mitch Hickey, also making their postseason debuts, combined to record the last four outs for the win and save.
Against VCU
Oregon State will be taking on VCU for the first time in school history. VCU is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, of which the Beavers have gone 3-0 all-time, taking one from Richmond in 1986 and one in both 2007 and 2012 against St. Louis.
Opening Regionals
The Beavers have now gone 10-0 in NCAA Regional openers under head coach Pat Casey, with five coming away from Goss Stadium. What happens next will be key as OSU is 4-5 in the second game of a regional under Casey.
Nobach Runs His Hit Streak
Kyle Nobach’s two-hit game on Friday pushed his hit streak to five games where he is 6-for-16 (.375) with three RBI and a double and triple during it.
Singles
• Saturday’s scheduled starter, Drew Rasmussen, is 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 31 1/3 innings in non-conference games. Of his eight appearances against non-con. foes, only three have been starts.
• With a win Saturday the Beavers can hit the 40-victory plateau for the fourth consecutive season.
• OSU is 32-1 when leading after eight.
