Anderson Takes 28th at West Regional

Austin, Texas – Oregon State’s Morgan Anderson did not advance to the second round of the 1,500 meters on Thursday at the NCAA Division I 2015 Track & Field Championships West Preliminary meet in Austin.
A redshirt sophomore from Scotts Mills who graduated from Silverton High School, Anderson finished in 4:28.77 and took ninth place in her 12-woman heat and 28th overall.
Only the top five from each heat, and the next four best times, advanced to Saturday’s second round, when the field will be further trimmed from 24 to 12. She had the seventh-fastest time of the 27 finishers not in the top five of their heats.
Freshman Sam McKinnon runs in the 3,000 steeplechase preliminaries at 6:50 p.m. Friday. The 48 runners will compete in three 16-women heats; the top 12 placers advance to Eugene.
A graduate of Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho, McKinnon first set the school record (10:30.81) at the High Performance Meet on May 1. She lowered that mark to 10:25.77 when she placed fourth at the Pacific-12 Conference championships on May 16. She is ranked 27th-ranked overall and No. 4 among West Regional freshmen.
The regional continues through Saturday at the University of Texas. Qualifiers advance to the NCAA finals, June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
