Beavers Bound for IRA Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s rowing team concludes its season this weekend at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships on Mercer Lake near West Windsor, N.J.
Oregon State, which is ranked No. 16 in the final regular season USRowing Collegiate Poll, was awarded an at-large bid after a third place finish at the Pac-12 Championships earlier this season. The Beavers will send three crews to the national championship regatta – the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8.
“This is the culmination of the whole year. It’s a big deal,” interim head coach Gabe Winkler said. “Our goal is to beat our seed and perform well with these east coast team we don’t see often. We want to show we’re a national power.”
OSU’s crews will see several familiar foes at IRAs including California, Oklahoma City, Stanford, Washington and Wisconsin among the 24 Varsity 8 crews this weekend.
This weekend marks the third straight appearance at IRA Championships for the Beavers and is the first with Winkler at the helm. Winkler and company will be looking to improve on last year’s 18th place finish in the V8.
IRAs begin Friday at 8 a.m. ET and continue through Sunday.
